The Central CT IIE Scholarship is an annual award open to any student in an Industrial Engineering or related program in our area, which includes all of Connecticut, western Massachusetts and parts of New York and Rhode Island. This year our format was new in that we required each applicant to write an abstract on a course project or technical paper that they have completed. Based on the abstracts, 3 semi-finalists were chosen and each semi-finalist presented their work at our Scholarship Banquet in May. The winner was then chosen based on the quality and technical merit of the presentation.
We are happy to report that the number of applicants for this year's scholarship increased greatly from years' past. Also, we are happy to report that this year's winner is Ms. Dana Evernden of the University of Massachusetts who presented her research on Scenario Based User Testing to Guide Consumer Health Informatics Design.
In the future, our Chapter would like to work even more closely with the universities in our area. In the last 12 months, IE students from Western New England College and the University of New Haven participated in joint activities with our chapter that included tours of local industries such as Hallmark Cards and academic/industry seminars on IE methods. Several upcoming events are planned for the remainder of 2010 and more information can be found by viewing our monthly newsletter and/or contacting Dan Isherwood at firstname.lastname@example.org or Brian Nathanson at email@example.com or Lee Cromarty at firstname.lastname@example.org.
